World of Warcraft considering tribute to Robin Williams
Yesterday hit us pretty hard when we learned of the passing of comedian Robin Williams, who passed away yesterday at the age of 63. He left behind so many works that many will come to appreciate for years to come…and now, he’ll also leave his mark in World of Warcraft.
Following his sudden death yesterday, a Change.org petition asked for signatures to include him in the popular Blizzard MMO as a non-playable character, or NPC.
“He often joked about his WoW addiction but also about the reactions he’d get from other gamers when he admits he plays the game,” the petition reads. “Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian.”
The popular vote paid of, as technical game designer Chadd Nervigg confirmed that the team was, indeed, “taking care of it,” meaning that somewhere within the game universe, Williams will be present and accounted for. There’s no word on when he will be put in, but it shouldn’t be too long.
In the meantime, farewell, Mr. Williams. Oh captain, our captain.
