Motorola earnings triple, jobs cut at semiconductor spin-off
Third-quarter profit at Motorola has greater than tripled because of improved sales of cell phones, but shares dipped because of concerns concerning the outlook for sales growth.

Motorola’s semiconductor business – while being spun-off as Freescale Semiconductor – notched up operating earnings of $82m. Sales rose 17 percent around the year to $1.4bn. This comes even close to $76 million loss last year.
However, Freescale stated it would cut about 1,000 jobs, or 4.5 percent of their workforce, that will cost $sixty five million in once-off charges.
Motorola creates the G4 nick utilized in Apple’s PowerBooks and iBooks.
